Just yesterday, the internet was shaken up when Ken Block, founder of DC Shoes and renowned World Rally Championship driver, released the Gymkhana 9 video.
The video was made in partnership with Forza Horizon 3 -the much awaited sequel to the well appreciated racing game series – and was to be shot in Australia at the Sydney Opera House. However, due to legal restrictions, Gymkhana 9 was shot in Buffalo, New York.
The video is set in what appears to be an abandoned industrial area with the usual gamut of barrels and sheds. While a lot of game makers are moving into the concept of releasing adrenaline packed videos of professional drivers pushing the limits, what makes Gymkhana 9 special is the fact that Ken Block drives the Focus RS RX – one of only two such cars on the planet.
Through the course of the video, Ken Block comes really close to driving the car into the water and you’re only left wondering how the entire scene must have been shot.
What’s also different about this video is the fact that there is no background music playing along and the viewers are subject to some hard core exhaust notes of the inline-4 that churns out 600bhp and 663 lb-ft of torque, doing 0-100 is just 2 seconds!
Forza Horizon 3 is due for initial release on 27th September and after a promo video of this stature, let’s hope the game holds up to its reputation.
